The Townview Choir is one of the few competitive, varsity ensembles that includes students of all experience levels. Students learn choral technique, literacy, and perform a wide variety of genres and styles. The choir competes in district and regional events including UIL, All State, and Music Festivals. Students perform throughout the Metroplex and beyond, including Austin, San Antonio, New Orleans, New York City, and more at such venues as The Meyerson Symphony Center, Dallas City Performance Hall, and The Majestic Theater.
Choir meets during the school day and after school in combined rehearsals. Students also have the option to take class during 9th period (after school only).

Modern band

The Modern Band, also known as “Rock Band”, is unique in a high school setting. Students learn guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, and lead vocals. The Modern Band performs around the Metroplex at venues such as the AT&T Performing Arts Center, including being requested as an opening act for the national tour of the Musical Rent.
The Modern Band class meets during the day, with occasional rehearsals outside of school. Friday Night Band, our advanced ensemble, meets every Friday evening. Auditions for this band are each year in September.

Music theory

Music Theory at Townview focuses on comprehensive music literacy. Students learn music notation, analysis, aural skills, sight-reading, and piano. Pre-AP Music Theory develops fundamental music skills. It has no prerequisite and is open to everyone (though prior musical experience is highly recommended). AP Music Theory requires a placement test and works through advanced topics typically covered in first and second year college courses.
